Scholarship Guidelines & Procedures
Mission: The Foundation for Appraisal Education was formed to advance education related to personal property appraising and to assist individuals through scholarships for educational development to improve their capabilities by attending courses, classes, workshops and conferences.
How It Works
- To apply for a scholarship, submit a completed application prior to taking a course, class, workshop or conference. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted.
- In 2012, The Foundation will present scholarship awards of $1,000.00 each to one new and one experienced appraiser. A new appraiser has less than 2 years experience.
- Scholarship monies will be paid directly to the sponsor of the course, class, workshop or conference when the selected candidate confirms the educational opportunity in which they will participate.
- Unused portions of a scholarship can be applied towards another course, class, workshop or conference, but must be dispersed within the allotted time frame (see below), or the unused portion will revert back to the Foundation.
Dates
- In 2012, applications will be accepted January 1st through May 31st. Scholarships will be awarded on June 30th of the same year.
- Recipients will have one year from the date the scholarship is awarded to complete their course, class, workshop or conference.
Guidelines
- Scholarships are awarded to cover the costs for tuition of courses, classes, workshops, programs or conferences and do not include travel, hotel or other associated expenses.
- Scholarships will be awarded only for educational classes, workshops, courses and conferences related to personal property appraising.
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to complete and submit the application within the time frame noted above to be considered for a scholarship.
Eligibility
- Students, new & experienced appraisers or any individual wanting to further their educational development in the area of personal property appraising may apply.
- Applicants from all Appraisal Societies are welcome.
- Directors, officers, and employees of the International Society of Appraisers and the Foundation for Appraisal Education, members of the Foundation for Appraisal Education Scholarship Selection Committee and their relatives are not eligible to apply for Foundation for Appraisal Education Scholarships.

New Appraiser category
Lauren Bradley

I am a graduate of American University, where I received my B.A. in Art History. After receiving my degree, I continued to further my education by enrolling in courses at New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Last year I enrolled in the Core Courses in Appraisal Studies through the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). I successfully completed the course and the qualifying exam. I also completed the 15 hour course and examination on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
In addition to pursuing continuing education, I have worked in the art field for nearly ten years. Since graduating from American I have held jobs with a private art dealer and appraiser, large personal property appraisal firms, an internationally competitive auction house, and am currently managing a nationally recognized gallery, which specializes in the sale of American Impressionist artwork. As a new appraiser I hope to further my appraisal education through ISA, with the intent of earning my Accredited Member status and eventually my Certified Member status. This scholarship will enable me to pursue these goals.
Experienced Appraiser category
Katherine Cutlip

I am thrilled and honored to be the recipient of the Experienced Appraiser Scholarship. I have been appraising for over 13 years in Florida in a multi-generational (grandmother, mother and myself) appraisal and estate sale business. I have recently returned to Florida after a two-year hiatus in Cincinnati, Ohio and am very excited to have returned to Florida and to get back to work. This scholarship offers me the opportunity to attend the Antiques and Residential Contents Course in October that will be an excellent introduction back into the appraisal profession. I am very grateful to the Foundation for Appraisal Education for this generous award.
Rago Auctions Scholarship in 20th Century Design

I am excited to have been chosen for the Rago Scholarship, 20th century design is a passion of mine and an area that interests me. I will be using this scholarship to take the Antiques and Residential Contents class in October to expand my knowledge as an appraiser. I currently run my store Braden River Antiques and have done so for the past 6 years and am working on expanding my appraisal business as well.
